Kuala Lumpur, 21/05/2008 - Some 800 loud and responsive audience witnessed the crowning of the Malaysia National winner for the Triumph Inspiration Award Beijing 2008 competition at the Bintang Circle, Pavilion, KL last evening. Ms Merlin Yuwita, (age 20) a final year student from the Lim Kok Wing University with the theme ‘A Gift for Marie’, inspired by ladies of France in the 18th century and historical fashion icon Marie Antoinette, beats 11 other finalists. Merlin walked away with RM5000 cash, and will represent Malaysia to compete in the International Finals at Beijing in July 2008 with 30 other winners from their respective countries. Her masterpiece will be paraded by Amber Chia, Malaysia’s top model who was also present at the prize giving ceremony last evening. The Audience Choice Award via live SMS voting went to Tan See Mun (age 20) with the theme ‘Mystery of Puzzle’, inspired by the uniqueness of how puzzle pieces find the matching pair and be able to stick together amazingly. The judges were Triumph Head of Product Management and Design Ms Heidrun Kunzer, Female Magazine Editor Seema Viswanathan, local designers Bill Keith, Carven Ong and Khoon Hooi. The Triumph Inspiration Award Beijing 2008 is an international competition initiated by Triumph to challenge young design students from 31 countries to create a set of lingerie based on the theme ‘Female Fascination’ and it is up to individual’s perception and interpretation. The created piece will then be paraded by a professional model, completes with accessories from head to toe and to be presented at an International standard runway. Besides creating a perfect platform for the student’s exposure and involvement in the fashion industry, Triumph is offering a handsome cash reward of Euro 15,000 (RM75,727), Euro 10,000 (RM50,487) and Euro 5,000 (RM25,243) for the grand prize winner, second and third prize winners respectively. The winning piece will also be reproduced as a limited edition and sold in selected Triumph stores worldwide; featuring the designer and school’s name, and concept on the hang tags. At the Malaysia National Final last evening, the audience had a blast with a stunning hip hop dance as opening and a mind blowing performance by Jaclyn Victor. Besides catching the premiere of the twelve contestants’ creations, the audience also had the opportunity to view Khoon Hooi, Carven Ong, and Bill Keith’s latest collection pairing up with Triumph’s seductive collection, featuring Amber Chia, Hannah Lo & Ms Astro Chinese 2007/2008 Joanne Yew as the celebrity models. The night was all about glam & glitz when the audience saw the appearance by Malaysian beauties and celebrities such as Andrea Fonsenka, Belinda Chee, Elaine Daly, Ezlynn, Fazura, Sazzy Falak, Nasha Aziz, Nora Danish, Nurul, and Zahnita Wilson and many more.
