The Guessing Game for the most inspiring lingerie is finally over;
JAPAN tops it all!
Grand final of the worldwide lingerie design contest “Triumph Inspiration Award ‘08” took place in Beijing, China on the 31st July 2008
Beijing, China, 31/07/08 - The last day of July was the decision day; a day that all participating countries had been desperately waiting for.
Midori Matsuo from the Bunka Fashion College, Japan walked away with Euro 15,000 (RM76,299) and defeated 30 other contestants around the world. Midori’s design was based on a woman’s emotion. “When women feel like crying, they tend to hide it. What do the delicate feeling and lingerie design have in common is that both are only revealed to the ‘important person’ in a woman’s life. I designed my lingerie to look like the face of a crying woman to illustrate the commonality”.
Theresa Bachler from ESMOD Munich, Germany begged the second prize of Euro 10,000 (RM50,866) and was inspired by ‘Little Black Dress’ which the Vogue magazine in 1935 described as ‘nothing in fashion is as new’. Third prize went to
Stine Fagervik-Rosen, ESMOD International Oslo, Norway walked away with Euro 5,000 (RM25,433). Her inspiration came from the atmosphere and fascination she experienced while shopping at the second hand shop and themed “Desire for Beautiful Trash”.
Triumph Malaysia’s representative was from The Limkokwing University, Merlin Yuwita and Amber Chia as model. Merlin’s design was inspired by the 18th century and historical fashion icon Marie Antoinette.
Fashion and design students with their respective models from 31 countries and regions around the world, presented their showpieces during the spectacular catwalk show at the Triumph Inspiration Award ’08. The event took place at The Unique Hall 706 of avant-garde 798 Art Zone and home to Switzerland’s National House during the Olympic Period, the ‘House of Switzerland’. An inspiring expert judging panel, consisting of non other than Viktor & Rolf, Helena Christensen, Ellen von Unwerth, Sarah from Colette, Lv Yan and Triumph’s own Jan Rosenberg, came to The Decision: which design piece deserved to be called the most inspired, and inspiring, of them all. Prominent personalities, Linford Christie and Michelle Lee (Reis) were also the special guests of the major happening.
The TIA Competition
The Triumph Inspiration Award, inaugurated this year, is a global design competition created by the lingerie specialist, Triumph. The Award challenges students from prestigious international design schools to create a conceptual showpiece-set, comprising of an under-wired bra and briefs, dedicated to the design motto for 2008: “Female Fascination”.
The young talents first competed at a national level, where their concepts and showpieces were up against other students of their own school in their country or region. They had to convince a national judging panel with their design pieces. The winner of each national competition automatically qualified for the international final, where he or she had the opportunity to present their piece to the illustrious Triumph Inspiration Award jury.
The TIA Judging Panel
At the grand final of the Triumph Inspiration Award ’08, all competing finalists were under the scrutiny of one of the most demanding juries ever had judged lingerie design. The experts were among the best fashion world has to offer: The Dutch design duo Viktor & Rolf (Viktor Horsting & Rolf Snoeren); Danish top model Helena Christensen; German fashion photography icon Ellen von Unwerth; Colette’s chief purchaser and creative director - Sarah from Colette; and Chinese top model and budding actress Lv Yan. They joined Triumph’s own Jan Rosenberg in deciding who had presented the most inspired, and inspiring, lingerie design of 2008.
